Septicemia Neonatal En Potros: Acercamiento Diagnóstico y Terapéutico
Resumen
La septicemia neonatal en potros sigue siendo una emergencia clínica con alta morbilidad y mortalidad en las primeras horas o días de vida. El neonato equino es particularmente vulnerable por su inmadurez inmunológica y la dependencia de la transferencia pasiva de inmunoglobulinas, lo que facilita la invasión por bacterias como Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Streptococcus y Staphylococcus. El diagnóstico eficaz combina la valoración clínica incluyendo scores de riesgo y signos sistémicos con pruebas complementarias que abarcan hemocultivos y biomarcadores séricos, mejorando así la detección precoz y la estratificación del riesgo. El manejo exige intervención rápida y multidisciplinaria: estabilización hemodinámica y metabólica, soporte respiratorio, corrección de alteraciones electrolíticas y terapia antimicrobiana empírica de amplio espectro, que debe ajustarse con los resultados microbiológicos. Adicionalmente, la transfusión de plasma y medidas neuroprotectoras pueden influir favorablemente en la evolución. Mejorar la detección temprana y aplicar protocolos terapéuticos racionales y monitorizados son medidas clave para reducir la mortalidad y optimizar el pronóstico de los potros afectados.
