Ortodoncia en pacientes con enfermedad periodontal, Revisión bibliográfica

Resumen


Objetivo: Identificar la influencia que el tratamiento de ortodoncia produce en pacientes con enfermedad periodontal preexistente. Introducción: Pacientes con enfermedad periodontal que requieren tratamiento ortodóntico presentan diferentes alteraciones dentales como una perdida dental, sobre erupción, espacio interdental irregular y una oclusión traumática.

Materiales y métodos: Se realizó a un estudio descriptivo donde se realizó la búsqueda de literatura publicada en la base de datos pubmed, Medline, SciELO y Google Scholar entre los años 2017-2023, La búsqueda arrojo 92 artículos los cuales 40 pertenecen a Pubmed, 22 a Scielo y 30 a Google Scholar de los cuales fueron descartados 69 y se mantuvieron 23 artículos de los cuales los que fueron revisados en su totalidad y sus resultados expuestos a seguir.

Resultados: En 23 artículos acerca de la ortodoncia en pacientes con enfermedad periodontal se encontró que el tratamiento ortodóntico puede ser una herramienta eficaz para mejorar y facilitar la higiene bucal en pacientes con enfermedad periodontal y contribuir a la reducción de la gingivitis.

Conclusión: La ortodoncia desempeña un papel efectivo en la mejora de la higiene bucal y disminución de la gingivitis en pacientes con enfermedad periodontal, previene la pérdida de soporte periodontal, lo que se posiciona como un elemento crucial en el tratamiento de la enfermedad periodontal avanzada, contribuyendo así a mejorar la salud bucal y la calidad de vida de los pacientes.
