Avances en el Tratamiento del Vitiligo: Una Revisión Actualizada

Introducción: El tratamiento del vitiligo aborda la despigmentación crónica, buscando frenarla, estabilizar áreas afectadas y promover repigmentación. Opciones incluyen corticosteroides, inhibidores de calcineurina y JAK, análogos de vitamina D3, junto con terapias físicas como fototerapia. Es crucial considerar la fase y gravedad de la enfermedad, así como los objetivos del paciente. Además, el apoyo emocional y educación son fundamentales para mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes, junto con el camuflaje como opción cosmética. Los dermatólogos deben abordar tanto las necesidades físicas como emocionales para brindar un tratamiento integral y mejorar el bienestar general del paciente. Objetivo: Revisar evidencia reciente y relevante sobre las nuevas opciones terapéuticas disponibles para el tratamiento del vitiligo, así como para evaluar la eficacia y seguridad de estas intervenciones en pacientes con esta afección. Metodología: La búsqueda de información estuvo enfocada en revistas médicas certificadas en plataformas digitales como son: PubMed, Elsevier ScienceDirect, Cochrane estableciendo criterios de inclusión y exclusión con el propósito de investigar avances en el tratamiento del vitiligo. Resultados: El vitiligo es un trastorno cutáneo crónico que afecta la pigmentación de la piel. El tratamiento varía y puede incluir opciones médicas, quirúrgicas y cosméticas. La fototerapia es estándar para casos generalizados. En América Latina, la falta de conciencia y tratamiento adecuado destaca la necesidad urgente de mejorar el acceso y la comprensión. Conclusiones: Los avances en el tratamiento del vitiligo destacan la importancia del manejo temprano y personalizado. Aunque se requiere más investigación, la estabilización de la enfermedad es posible en la mayoría de los casos. La colaboración internacional es esencial para abordar las necesidades insatisfechas, especialmente en América Latina.
